Some comedies are funny here or there. Some are just plain stupid. Some are just plain annoying. Party Down is neither stupid nor annoying. Well, it isn't especially annoying. It just is not funny. Not at all. It reminds me of the Trailer Park Boys, of which I recently watched a few episodes. That was just not funny also. But, at least that had funny moments. party Down? Hard to think of a funny moment. Head-scratchers. Yes. Maybe the worst part is that Adam Scott, Martin S. & the tall blonde lady (whose name eludes me ... Greer maybe?) have all been funny in other things. The problem here is the writing. They have nothing to work with. Oh, another way it reminds me of Trailer Park Boys is the only character who is slightly funny & also not annoying is Ron, the "leader". In Trailer Park Boys, the only character who was slightly funny & also not at all annoying was the main guy, the "leader". Well, Party Down simply confirms what I already knew: when Hackneyedwood writes about Hackneyedwood people, the result is nearly always lousy.
Party Down is yet another comedy that is not funny at all. Burdened by a "too cool for words" attitude, this Rob Thomas comedy bites the dust the same way all of Mr. Thomas' concoctions did in the past.
The show is poorly scripted, poorly acted (well there's no much to work with!) and generally annoying instead of being funny.
Rob Thomas is the quintessence of everything that doesn't work in today's television: he is a terrible writer with no mastery of tone and who peppers his scripts with numerous plot holes. His shows fail time after time. And yet now Starz is treating him as if he were some sort of masterful genius...
It makes you wonder why Starz wants to fail so bad...
