What is this??

Whoever came up with this idea for a show had just had a smoke. Constant stupid pointless and uninteresting narrative, spiced up with as much swearing as possible but .... pointless. Terrible program.

Booooo

Instead of listing everything that went wrong with this show, I will list only the thing(s) that did't: the music.

Unbearably stupid and unwatchable. Period.

A Complete Waste Of Time

Another disappointment, it has become the standard of today's entertainment industry.

This show may indeed have been fun and interesting, but instead it's exhausting and boring. The characters are irritating, constantly listening to the main character's thoughts is tiring. After a while you just stop listening.

The series is neither funny nor interesting, the script is a disaster. The direction is mostly mediocre, and at times even bad and confusing. The concept is interesting, as is the time period, but for everything to be good, you still need a good screenwriter and director, which this series unfortunately does not have.

The acting is mediocre at best, and the characters are unbearable. The dialogues are hilarious, but not in a good way, simply unrealistic. The show is supposed to be a combination of drama and comedy, but it fails to be either.

It's not enough to put good music from the eighties to make the show interesting, the plot, characters and dialogues need to be interesting as well, the screenwriters and the director have obviously forgotten that.

Three episodes were quite enough to conclude that this was a total waste of time. Too bad, because the concept is interesting and the show could have been fun.

A complete waste of time.

Pointless story

I don't know how people like . It's pointless story I thought is will be like woman power but no she hate herself and she say bad things about others and about her husband basically she hates her life you would think in the end of this series Things will turn on OK if not better but nothing changed I don't see any progress it's like pointless story I didn't get it why I want to see a woman say mean things to herself and to others and continue with that why I want my time back and for the first time I remember the writers name so I will not see any of her work again -100.

Depressing Narration

Any show that has endless narration is already ponderous and boring. Add the depressing look of Rose Byrne, and the totally wrong take on the 1980s, and you have a show that is not capturing anything good. It also manages not to be funny.

Why Rose, why?

How the pretty/talented Rose Byrne got talked into leading this series is a mystery to be explored. From the opening scene she plays a self-hating, diet-fatigued insecure woman/wife of the 80s. They overuse that Sex and the City trope of the lead actress narrating over her scenes but it's critical, hateful stuff that lacks the zing of humor or revelation, it's just mean. And sometimes with these series, the writers/directors course-correct mid-season to save an otherwise failed enterprise, but not here, they double down and it's just a train wreck, just more of the awful covid-era dumpster fire Hollywood has been feeding us.

Awful and ill advised

If you have any kind of disordered eating history, run from this show. They are completely not self realized or educated around eating disorders. It's actually very sad.

Am I being trolled?

Good god this is awful. I really wanted to like it. I went in knowing nothing, I left with less. The "inner dialogue of self loathing?" This was comically horrid.

The plot is about as predictable as it could be- the battle with food addiction doesn't always display in such a ridiculous and Women's world weekly sort of way. The main character lent her name to this via her previous movie but honestly, I hoped much more for her. I rolled my eyes so many times I passed out.

I cannot believe that this movie is rated to 7. Gone are the days of clever characters and even passable writing. This was about as bland as it gets.

Bad all the way

The problem is - the show is imposing a pop culture ideology.

Just a disaster

Only redeeming quality...the credits. Nothing about this show is entertainment. It does not bring awareness to eating disorders, it makes it incredibly difficult watch for anyone who suffers from it. And the constant narration..please make it stop.

Can't even get through two episodes

I will sound like a grumpy old person, but I was born in 1970 and this show does not accurately portray the early 80s. The first episode is set in 1981 and it comes off more like 1989 or the early 90s. Those of us who lived in this era can spot the counterfeit a mile away (one of the characters using the word "bee-otch" for example... no, that word was not in use in 1981). That's annoying.

But whatever -- I could probably get past that if there was some sort of plot or story arc. I hate shows like this that just have a bunch of fast-moving scenes with every character acting in a completely unrealistic way, and no underlying STORY.

Yes, I get that it's a story about a housewife with an eating disorder who I presume is going to "find herself" in aerobics. So what? It's not an *interesting* story, because the characters are not intriguing and the scenarios are disjointed. It feels like all the effort went into the camerawork and someone's idea of, "Hey, let's make an 80s show."

Maybe it picks up eventually, but after you've wasted at least a full episode and a half with nothing to catch the viewer's attention, I can't imagine it's ever going to be worth the time to stick it out. I'm out.

Trigger alert

I found it painfully relatable. Weight obsession in my country didn't remain in the 80s. It is still very much alive and seriously oppressive. I didn't like the way this series joked about it. Felt very uncomfortable watching it. Nauseated even.

Promotes negative self talk

The annoying Narration Promotes negative self talk obviously! Just Watch five minutes of it and see for yourself. I cringe watched about seven episodes to see if this would shift but it doesn't and I don't have time to watch a show that misrepresents what aerobics teachers looked like in the 80s because I was one and we weren't bone thin! We were enthusiastic and delighted to have a new way to empower ourselves and inspire others. There should be a warning at the beginning of each episode about how the narration can be triggering.
