Rose Byrne is amazing and everything she did but this one is a very, very different role for her and I cannot get enough of it! That voice inside your head is loud and strong in this series and I am glad for it. The only regret I have is that now I have to wait for the rest of the season because I watched the first 3 episodes in one go.

I love the honesty this shows brings to what life can be like for a woman. People are complaining in other reviews about too much negative self-talk in the show but for some of us that is what life can be like. Glad to see such a relatable character in a show. Will keep watching!

100% nailed the 80's obsession with weight loss - from Crystal Light to aerobics. This was a decade where women were encouraged to put themselves Second. Rose Burn plays a wife and mother searching for meaning, and taking control over the one thing she can - her weight. It's a time when it was okay for men to make decisions for women. Thankfully, this is a show about a woman who took her life back.

Thank You so much for finally creating a series that's real that I can truly relate to! I have battled this disease my whole life. It's about time it's brought to attention.
I love this show. The way Sheila's obsessive thought patterns and ED issues are portrayed are really spot on. It touches on so much from the era and Rose Byrne is phenomenal as Sheila. Excited to see where it goes and how her character continues to develop.

I absolutely love this show and understand this isn't everyone's genre, but the acting is superb and storyline, hilariously dark. Give it a go, but if it's not your cup of tea, move on.. If you're only into Marvel, need to see stuff explode, skip it because I don't want you to leave a bad review. I need a season 3!!

As you can read from the range of reviews, this show is highly polarizing.
It isn't for softies. This is a show for people who understand what living with a brutal inner dialogue is like. Some people just don't have a taste to look at the dark view of society. But IF YOU DO, then baby, this show is for us! And about time, too!
Maybe people thought that because it was about aerobics, that the show would be happy and bubbly? Body issues in 80's Reagan LA - you were expecting namaste on the beach? That says more about you than this brilliant and original show.
I love how it covers so well that the engines that drive our cultural (and big business) changes are often tortured souls engaged in nasty personal agendas. The writers on this show really know their psychology.
I HATE that I have to wait for Season 2.
SHEILA, YOU DO RIGHT BY BUNNY AND TY!!!!

I want to see where this goes. Lots of characters and development hopefully setting up something great. It's good but might be great. We shall see.

Rose has been largely underappreciated, but when shes given the right vehicle, she nails it like few can. And as an Aussie my bias for her is more down to her ability to swear properly, as only Aussies and Scots can.
The visuals are like an acid flashback for those of us who lived through the 80's - which, you awful millennials, was the greatest time on earth - the best music, the best movies (thanks John Hughes especially), the best everything
Theres a nice balance between humour and (self)loathing here, and im looking forward to see where this goes.

I've been a fan of Rose Byrne since "Damages." She is equally talented in drama and comedy, so she is perfect in this 1980s dramedy. All of the acting is great and I hope it will be back for a third season.

I was drawn in by Rose Byrne, of course, but I stayed because the show is dark, incisive, self-loathing... all that on pumped-up 80's tunes and fluo gear. The acting is as always excellent, but Rose Byrne has a chance to really shine. She's so precise and dedicated, I do hope she gets an emmy nod for this performance.
.....and that's what it is...80's vibe masterpiece.
Just finished watching..I also can't believe a low ratings! Why???
SEASON 3 please!!!! Thank you...

I'll just say it: this show is fascinating. It's not perfect though. The husband is an annoying baby and Sheila definitely puts up with too much from him under the guise of "well, it was the '80's".
However, this series is unique. The good parts emerge when we are allowed to hear Sheila's extremely criticial inner monolouge and we get to witness her journey of fighting against her inner demons with the help of exercise. She is daring, tenacious, and she goes for what she wants. It is inspiring, and despite her doubts about herself she keeps going.
This is an addictive show. It does need some time to grow on you. But once it clicks, you are hooked. If you are able to, I recommed binge watching it.

This series grabbed my partner and I from the first episode.
It's funny, witty, with the realism of the intensity of negative self-talk, the subsequent stultified social interactions and actions of someone suffering from an eating disorder, yet punctuated by moments of how to overcome such things showing glimpses of hope and dark humour..
Rose Byrne really embodies this character beautifully.
Very much Looking forward to the next episode...

I've never seen more honest character portrayals in any other movie or TV show. Ever. All are multifaceted and truly reflective of reality in the sense of the beauty and the beast in each of us. Something we don't always want to admit. How this ever got made is a miracle but it'll restore your faith miracles happen. Roll on season 2!

This show is so much deeper than a woman getting aerobics. Terrific acting and great story. I will watch almost anything based in the 80s. Some I love and some I feel is a disservice to that era. This one I love. Rose's internal monologue is what we all think at times. This tackles a major topic that imho started to surface in the 80s. Anyway love this show and grateful they make me be patient every week.

Nicely put together series about what women were and are still up against living in the patriarchy. The exploration of the main protagonist's journey through low self-esteem and bulimia is carefully and realistically handled within a surreal and satirical world. Not an easy feat!

UPDATE: In season 3, I miss Sheila's voice as she confronts real everyday struggles and battles personal demons. It's almost like she replaced an eating disorder with Schizophrenia.
Also, I miss Bunny and felt she was a strong but under-utilized character.
I loved the character-building through complex/quirky but real/relatable (yet not necessarily likable) characters played by lesser-known actors in seasons1&2, so the introduction of Zooey Deschanel playing a blond bombshell/Southern bel/catty aerobics instructor seems out of sync.
STILL... Creator Annie Weisman is a genius--obviously.
Brilliant casting and acting all-around (lead Rose Byrne is outstanding). The show touches on some real issues (especially relating to women's roles, mental health, power struggles, weight, sex, sexual abuse, and disordered eating), yet things manage to stay light and understated.
This is the kind of show that either will resonate, or it won't. It blends style, quirkiness, and vulnerability up in a half-hour show with relatable, complex, flawed-but-lovable characters.
Refreshing. The best of Apple Originals.

Hooked from the first episode! Love Rose, the fashion, the times and the soundtrack. Totally relatable as a female and as a child from the 80's!
I love everything about this show. The 80's theme, the comedy and the acting is brilliant!!!!!! Actually made me LOL!!!! Highly recommended!
