Despite the continuous action and chases and explosions, it feels like nothing happens and the movie is more boring than entertaining. Characters remain flat and cold without ever emerging from a very formulaic acting. You already know from the beginning what is going to happen with the two main characters never developing any substantial interaction (did they ever meet during the shooting of the movie?). I struggled to the get to the end - I could have watched the trailer in a loop 20 times, would have been more fun. This is my recommendation. Do not waste any money on this movie and do not support this type of wasteful cinematography. If you really want to watch Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt after their latest plastic surgeries (very mediocre job), the movie trailer is all you need.

Sorry, couldn't agree with the critics giving glaring reviews. I am not sure what they found in the sloppy script and even sloppier direction.
I am giving it 5/10 only for the occasional comedies that made me laugh and the beautiful locations in Sydney. Some of the stunts were truly impressive, but I guess that was a core requirement for a movie about a stuntman.
The chemistry between Gosling and Blunt was lifeless. There was no spark even in the most romantic scenes. Emily Blunt is one of the overrated actors getting a lot of attention in Hollywood nowadays, in my opinion.
The pace was rather uneven, and it did not feel like it was planned - but rather lack of. At times, it felt such a drag that I could not connect to what these characters were doing on the screen.
Not worth spending your hard earned money at the theatres.

Couldn't finish, had to stop being 50 mins in.
Life is too short to watch bad movies.
They say it's like good old 80's action comedies. It's not. It's not funny or witty, dialogues stretched and dragged unnecessarily, main characters are pleasant but easily forgettable.
Yes, some action is there, however it doesn't make you want to continue watching the movie.
Maybe it's supposed to be a family movie? Maybe if it was shorter it would do the trick.
However, it fails to deliver what it promises.
I'm glad we didn't go to the theatre for this.
Stay home and watch some good old 80's movie and skip this one.

With a movie like this you don't expect much. You do expect it to be funny, slick and entertaining. But you don't expect it to be too long. This film is too long. Gosling tries very hard all through the movie and is a genuine star. Blunt is gorgeous but to be honest looks bored. Every body else is just filler. The plot is silly but that's okay. The stunts are great but there are far too many. Overall the movie is so shallow it's difficult to write enough about it to meet the required characters for this review. I'm glad it finished as I was bored about 30 minutes out. And that's a pity. Oh well.

The Fall Guy has too many inside jokes and is way to happy with its own existance. It feels like the happiness of the audience was secondary.
Barbie managed to pull of an exceptional film using similar tools, whereas The Fall Guys falls a long way short.
The leads put on a charm offensive but all laughs are over simplified bordering on stupid.
An example of the in jokes, is the use of the sound effect of the Bionic Man in one scene, who was played by Lee Majors who played'The' Fall Guy in the tv show. How many audience members, for this demographic, would make that link. I was 6 when the Bionic Man was on tv?
Too try hard which was a shame :)

This movie just ended up agitating me. I had no idea what these people are on about. I usually like Gosling, but I couldn't figure out what he was doing; he's dumb, he's smart, he's high, he's getting blown up again, etc, etc. Blunt provides her usual tics and too-cool attitude, while Waddingham retains her title as one of the most annoying actresses going around.
The stunts are good, the plot paper thin and the movie references plentiful. Gosling is a stuntman who has to find his ex-girlfriend director's missing movie star played by the quite-good Taylor-Johnson. Or some such silliness. Oh and apparently Lee Majors is in this, but for the life of me, I couldn't see him.
Has some enjoyable moments, but it is nowhere near as funny or smart as it thinks it is. I must be getting old and cranky, but I definitely starting to become impatient with some of the twaddle being released nowadays. 5/10.

"The Fall Guy" is a film that owes much of its watch-ability to the presence of Ryan Gosling, whose performance elevates an otherwise weak story-line.
While the premise had potential, the execution falls short in several key areas: 1. Emily Blunt, usually a reliable performer, overacts her role. Her character comes across as forced and one-dimensional, with dialogue that often feels excessive and unnecessary. The chemistry between the leads, which should have been a highlight, is undermined by this overzealous approach.
2. The plot, while aiming for thrills, becomes predictable early on, sapping much of the tension from the narrative.
3. At 2 hours and 6 minutes, the film overstays its welcome, with pacing issues that make certain sequences drag. A tighter edit could have improved the overall flow and impact.
4. Action sequences, while competently executed, mostly fail to truly excite due to their formulaic nature.
5. The film's attempts at humor often miss the mark, further contributing to a sense of tedium as the story progresses.
In the end, while "The Fall Guy" has moments of promise, it ultimately fails to deliver a consistently engaging experience. Its over-reliance on tough-girl tropes and predictable plot twists make it a middling entry in the action-comedy genre. Disappointment.
Rating: 5+/10 IMDb stars.

Everyone was raving about this film and I think it had a lot to do with the publicity it was given. Unfortunately it did not meet my expectations.
Overall it's a good action comedy, but that's about all that's going for it. Plot is very thin and messy. I got to the end of the movie and still did not know what the story was about or why the bad guys were doing what they were doing. If it wasn't for Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, I don't think this movie would be as much of a success as it was.
If you want a mindless action comedy, this is the one for you. If you are after an action movie with a good story, maybe stay clear of this.
I did enjoy watching them make a movie within a movie as I help out as a Grip occasionally. So I did enjoy that aspect of the movie but other than that there is not much going for this movie. I don't see what all the hype was about.

What could have been a simple action film with great stunts and a reasonably storyline has been dragged down by TOO MUCH TALKING! Was the scriptwriter getting paid by the word? Conversations between characters go on for far too long and contain terrible 'jokes'. The actors themselves play fairly interesting characters with pantomime flair, Emily Blunt pouts her way through it while trying to land the jokes and Ryan is as wooden as ever which fits the part of a world weary stuntman. The set piece action sequence are well done and are a nod to the art of stunt work and there's a great guest appearance at the end (after the credits). But the film needed a serious cut to the script and dialogue. Should have been better.
I was really looking forward to this as a fan of the tv show it was based on but what a let down. Poor story, bad characterisation and some lazy writing and substandard acting. Yes I get it was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek but it just wasnt funny. A complete waste of the lead actors and I can't believe they signed up to it. Emily Blunt's role was so one dimensional and unrealistic it felt a total waste of her talent and Ryan Gosling's character wasn't much better it was undeveloped. For a film about stunts they weren't in any way spectacular in this movie. If I hadn't bought it on Amazon I would've turned it off, it was watchable I suppose but don't go out of your way to do so.
Have you seen how they make trailers - they pick the most action-packed moments and stuff. Then a joke follows. Then again - an explosion. The problem is there is no empty moment throughout the whole movie. Just the new pattern I've been noticing in the last few years - action, joke-action-joke. As if the script was written by an Ai, while checking the dopamine release in your brain after every joke-action sequence. The plot is so thin you can read through it. The dialogues are messy and so excess, that my head hurts from all the meaningless talking and hyper ventilating. If we strip the move to it's core, it's a regular love/murder story, written by someone on drugs, with ADHD, sugarcoated with 80s music. The good stuff - the stunts. And the chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emily blunt. Unfortunately it was badly hurt with the insensible, unemotional script, which covered every human emotion with some classical pop song, instead of actors actually having to show that emotion.
I feel sorry for the modern cinema. No wander Ai is going to overtake it.

My wife and I caught The Fall Guy (2024) in theaters last night. The plot centers on a stuntman who, after a debilitating accident, loses both his confidence and direction in life. A year later, he receives a call for help for the woman he once loved, prompting him to return to the movie industry to help her. However, upon arrival, he discovers ulterior motives at play, leading to unexpected twists and turns.
Directed by David Leitch (Bullet Train) and featuring a star-studded cast including Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Winston Duke (Black Panther), and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).
The Fall Guy had the potential for a compelling romantic comedy, but unfortunately, the excessive $130 million budget leads to over-the-top scenes and cheesy moments in almost every frame. Despite solid performances from the cast, the film suffers from poor editing and unrealistic storytelling. While there are a few good lines and a touching love story, the movie is weighed down by drawn-out scenes that diminish its impact. Even after the apparent conclusion, the film continues with behind-the-scenes shots during the credits and additional scenes post credits, prolonging the experience unnecessarily (even if I did enjoy the behind the scenes shots).
In conclusion, while The Fall Guy boasts a promising premise, it succumbs to overproduction, poor editing and an abundance of cheese. I would rate it 4.5/10 and recommend it only with appropriate expectations.

Let's get some postives out of the way. One of which are; The two leads, there charisma and charm is one of the few reasons this movie was tolereble. The action was also handled with Leitch's flare. Which is becoming a trademark when it comes to action set pieces. The shots where we were watching a film being made was well choreographed. And Finally there's a cameo that made me grin ear to ear(involving the final shot of the film they were making).
Now lets talk about the elephent in the room. Which is the over inflated run time, there are dialogs in this film that span for five minutes but feels like twenty. They added no depth to the characters and did nothing to progress the story. The marketing of this movie reminded me of Goslings other film The Nice Guys(2016) a detective -noir film that I love and was hoping to get a similar experience here, but alas it's nothing like it. The story telling felt like it was inspired by Kiss Kiss Bang Bang(2005) which is a fantastic film by the way. But comparing it with this would be insulting to Downey Jr. And to add insult to injury the plot of the movie is predictable. Not a quality you want in any movie. The concept of the film is one that actually demands respect but the fear of commitment to it's core story is a main reason it stumbles.

Much as I love both the lead actors in this. I still think Lee Majors played it better in the original. He was the fall guy, less glam more real. They diverted from the original premise where he moonlighted as a bounty hunter which was more the focus of the show. Lee Majors played it as an older character who wore the scars of his stunt life and found other avenues to supplement his income . Had more depth...not sure if that was writing or the actors portrayal but to me the the original wok. As less glam more gritty. Lee Majors appeared more believable and more focused on a story than pyrotechnics.

I'm wondering how this movie gets great reviews? This is the only reason I'm searching online is trying to figure out what I missed. Sure I understand. It is supposed to be silly and that the stunts are great but whoever wrote the script or did the editing needs to not be hired again. I never fall asleep during movies and I always continue watching them but this one I stopped three times and fell asleep when I wasn't even tired. This may make me sound stupid but the plot was somehow confusing and seemed like it change direction midway through. Sure we all love watching beautiful people and there are a few funny moments but I am not a tough critic in this movie is forcing me to write my first review ever. If you can watch it for free, go for it it's not actually horrible, but so an impressive and nothing you will remember.

So, if you are prepared not ask any questions (like who, what, why and so on) regarding plot (i.e. Writing), this might be a movie for you. Brain off is a prerequisite. Probably conceived as a "love letter to stunt profession", with some sort of love story and crime mixed-in, this movie fails big time. At the end, it' s one: neither love story, nor crime, or anything but a mess. Actors did their best and are fully professional, as was the editing department. Music selection is kind of OK, but nothing special. Mr. Gosling and Ms. Blunt lack mutual chemistry (although they're very good in their respective roles). Ms. Waddingham is an excellent hyperactive neurotic psycho, maybe a bit overdone here and there. Same goes for Mr. Taylor-Johnson. Cameos (wait until the end, if you have patience) are a nice touch but can't save lack of a proper writing and dialogue. The movie as a whole looks far-fetched and pretty chaotic. For recommendation, see the first sentence of this review.

Anyone who saw Ryan Gosling's beautifully timed comedic performance in The Nice Guys must have looked forward to this Action romp. Nothing against Gosling or any of the cast but the barely credible plot - even for the genre - and the complete lack of genuinely funny lines, gags or set pieces left this reviewer at least leaving the theatre just shaking my head in disappointment. What a waste of a great cast, extravagant set pieces and budget. Did anyone actually read the script and let out the slightest laugh. The two leads did their very best but the only thing laughable was the fact this remake of the 80's TV show got made in the first place. And I so wanted to like it.

The Fall Guy is a film loosely based on the 1980's TV Series starring Lee Majors. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt the film tries to update the premise of stuntman turned bounty hunter for modern audiences. Gosling and Blunt are ok in there respective roles but the biggest problem is the script. The film does not have enough story for a 2 hour runtime, and is padded out by cheesy comedic scenes which jar tonally with some of the violence. On a couple of positive notes action scenes and stunts are on the whole well done, and the soundtrack is great. I also like the banter between Gosling and the head stunt guy when they are constantly quoting film lines to each other. Support performances in the film are over the top and hammy and after a while these become over bearing. Gosling does what he can with an underwritten Colt Seavers role as does Blunt but they cannot save The Fall Guy from being a bit of a dud. Ultimately i found The Fall Guy to be a disappointment and if you want to see a proper film in relation to Hollywood Stuntmen i recommend you go and search out Hooper instead.

On the plus side: Impressive 8 & 1/2 roll car stunt on the beach. Interesting behind the scenes look at a fight sequence in front of the Sydney Opera House where you get to see the harnesses on stunt actors. Entertaining street chase using a rubbish skip and pick up truck - probably a vehicle that hasn't been used in a chase scene before. Nice touch with the skip bin spinning 360s on its side. The female actors get to do some fight sequences rather than sitting looking helpless. Play 'Spot the Reference' to other movies and actors. Nice views of Sydney Harbour and surrounds.
Negatives: Terrible plot.
Negatives: Terrible plot.
Although the main actors are really not among my favourites (and probably exactly because of that) - I went seeing this movie. I had no idea about the actual plot, or even a genre. And this is some kind of action/crime romantic smoothie with a lot of stunt work.
Action scenes are really done well (no surprise having in mind that the very director had a rich experience in doing stunts and working on action movies). But the plot, ah, it was kind of mess, bit ok, it was supposed to be a light fun, not an Interstellar. But what about the dialogues? Pretty cringe romantic-comedy shots seriously bombed and the rendered the atmosphere in theatre hardly bearable. No chemistry between Ryan and Emily, really. Regarding the acting, the Tom Ryder guy was really great, the producer (actress from GoT, cannot look for the name right now) was sometimes great and sometimes just overacted.
Long story short: if you are a big Gosling and Blunt's fan and/or you really like John Vick/Too fast too furious action and can easily make compromises on cringe humour, this one is for you. Otherwise, you won't miss a thing. I rate 5 for the effort.

Exactly half way through right now. And I had to stop for a minute to say "huh"? I love Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. I was looking forward to some light entertainment but come on, it needs to be at least a little involving. The plot is kind of scattered and hard to follow at first. The little comedic bits were amusing but short lived. This is just not really good writing. It's kind of lazy and I bet the film makers knew it. The actors acted half assed as if they didn't really care. But I don't fault them so much as the makers, the writers and the direction. This is not the big leagues. So watch if you've nothing else to do but be forewarned. Lower your expectations.

This was not a movie that I was in any particular rush to sit down and watch. But eventually got around to doing so, as I had the opportunity to do so.
The storyline in "The Fall Guy", as written by Glen A. Larson and Drew Pearce, was okay. It wasn't an outstanding or memorable storyline. Sure, it was watchable, but it felt somewhat flat and generic at times.
I found "The Fall Guy" to be entertaining for what it was, but it was hardly an outstanding movie for me. It just wasn't really tickling me in the right places, and I have to say that I was expecting a tad more from director David Leitch's 2024 movie than what "The Fall Guy" turned out to be.
The acting performances in the movie were fair. I am not particularly a big fan of Ryan Gosling, and "The Fall Guy" was hardly among his better of movies. And Emily Blunt, well, you know what you get with her in movies, so there's that.
Visually then the movie was good, and it was the action scenes and sequences that kept the movie afloat and kept it watchable.
While I did manage to sit through this movie in its 126 minutes runtime, which felt long, then I was only mildly entertained. "The Fall Guy" is not a movie that I will sit down to watch a second time, as it was enough of a struggle to sit through it the first time.
My rating of "The Fall Guy" lands on a very generous five out of ten stars.

David Leitch's latest action-comedy, The Fall Guy, boasts a charming cast and a premise ripe with comedic potential. However, much like a stuntman missing his mark, the film stumbles in its execution, leaving me with a feeling of "been there, done that."
The plot centres around Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), a washed-up stuntman lured back into the game when a Hollywood star mysteriously vanishes from a big-budget production. While the idea of a stuntman doubling as an investigator is intriguing, the mystery itself feels derivative. We've seen this whodunit play out countless times before, complete with red herrings, double-crosses, and a climax that feels telegraphed a mile away.
The film's saving grace, however, is its charismatic lead duo. Gosling brings a winning blend of cockiness and vulnerability to Colt, while Emily Blunt shines as Jody Moreno, the film's sharp-tongued director and Colt's potential love interest. Their banter is genuinely funny at times, and their chemistry is undeniable. But even their talents can't elevate the film's predictable script, riddled with clichés and groan-worthy jokes.
Leitch, known for his work on action films like John Wick, delivers on the stunt sequences. The practical effects are impressive, showcasing the daring and skill of stunt performers. There's a clear love for the craft on display, reminiscent of classic action comedies like Rush Hour. However, the frenetic editing style, with its rapid cuts and shaky camerawork, often undermines the impact of these scenes, leaving me feeling disoriented rather than exhilarated.
The Fall Guy tries to capture the spirit of 80s action-adventure flicks, but it lacks the heart and humour of those films. The soundtrack, while energetic, leans heavily on nostalgia without offering anything fresh. The cinematography is serviceable, but the use of colour feels bland and uninspired.
Ultimately, The Fall Guy is a frustrating missed opportunity. It has the potential to be a crowd-pleaser, but its derivative plot, underwhelming direction, and forgettable score hold it back. While there are moments of genuine amusement, thanks largely to the cast, the film feels like a pale imitation of its action-comedy predecessors.
So, should you see it? If you're looking for a mindless action flick with a forgettable plot and some decent stunts, The Fall Guy might do it for you. But for those seeking a truly entertaining and clever experience, this one's a flop.
