I don't usually write reviews, but I feel like I need to defend this movie from the people writing these reviews that clearly just don't get it. This is one of the most fun, tightly written movies I've seen in a while.
If you're looking for a phenomenally directed action film with great jokes, running gags, and unexpected payoffs, this is it. You can just tell EVERYONE who worked on this movie was putting in 110%.
"The plot doesn't make sense if you think about it" Yeah man, it's an over the top goofy comedy action movie. The plot isn't really the focus. I think it's perfectly servicable for what it's trying to do: take us from setpiece to setpiece, gag to gag with these characters, and watch them grow. That's where the soul of the movie lies. Could the plot have been better? Yeah sure. But the plot is in the background of most of the film. We're intended to be watching these characters and their relationships, laughing at the jokes, and enjoying the excellent action and stunt work.
It really comes down to what you're going into a movie for and what a movie is trying to give. This movie is trying to give you a very funny and action packed 2ish hours with some very likeable characters in engaging situations. It's not The Godfather, and it was never trying to be. Highly recommend.

Just back from the cinema and can't remove the smile from my face. This genre of movie has been really lacking lately. Silly, cheesy, action packed movies that are just fun.
I'm a fan of the original television show and while this is it's own thing it definitely gives a nod here and there to the 80's. The casting is great, the stunts are brilliant, the plot is fairly thin but hey, it's a popcorn movie. Not everything has to be Oscar worthy.
I'd really love to see more movies like this released. Very little CGI, good stunts and just fun. The homage to the stuntmen at the end of the movie was a really nice touch too. Job well done.

Super enjoyable movie. Amazing stunts, amazing shots, and with some cool nods to the original show.
The writing was good, it was funny, it had it all. Romance, quips, movie catch-phrases, lol, explosions, amazing cinematography, and great fight choreography. Even my wife enjoyed it, maybe because of Gosling and the romance stuff. Lol. Either way, it's worth your time to pop it in for a fun couple hours.
I wasn't sure what the low ratings and poor reviews were about. This is what movies in this genre are! Fun!! Have fun you negative Nancy's and stop pooping on fun flicks!! Lol. There I reached my 600 limit. Enjoy!!!

As much as the premise is intriguing by shining a light on some of the less glamorous aspects of movie-making, if they didn't cast the right people, The Fall Guy would have been stuck in neutral. I watched Ryan Gosling in this movie and was wholly flabbergasted. He's a powerhouse of a dramatic actor but he's also RIDICULOUSLY funny. I trumpeted this after The Nice Guys and I feel like the rest of the world caught on after Barbie but he's a riot. He's also versatile in doing it, he can actually pull of slapstick gags with aplomb in a way that reminds me of Jim Carrey. It's not fair that he's that handsome and also that funny. Emily Blunt was also a treat, she's funny in her own right, she's sweet and vulnerable when she needs to be and it never felt like she was trying to pander to this lighter fare. She's a great actress period and I liked her chemistry with Gosling. I also want to mention that Hannah Waddingham as sleazy producer Gail Meyer. She stole every scene she was in, if you were wondering if the acclaim she's been getting from Ted Lasso was a fluke, this should make you reconsider. I've never been the biggest Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan but he does a great job of playing a jerk as movie star Tom Ryder. I'd also give a thumbs-up to Teresa Palmer in her brief role as Tom's co-star Iggy Starr. She's playing into the tongue-in-cheek selfish attitude of the actors & actresses in Metalstorm and I got a few laughs from her.
The Fall Guy has each of its respective feet in a different genre, let's start with the action. The film is directed by David Leitch, former stuntman and co-director of the early John Wick films and the director of Bullet Train and Deadpool 2. Leitch knows how to shoot action and the more bombastic moments in the film walk a fine line between being thrilling but not too crazy. Colt Seavers crashes cars, fights criminals and gets lit on fire but it all looks great. I was dipping and dodging in my seat, the action wasn't revolutionary in how it was portrayed but it was well captured and balanced being fun along with raising the stakes. My favourite was Colt's car chase with Jean Claude in tow but the hallucinogen fight in the club would be a close second.
I'm also happy to report that The Fall Guy had me laughing throughout. The movie also weaves it into scenes organically, The Fall Guy also features a sweet love story between Colt and Jody but it never got too sappy or saccharine because I never stopped chuckling. Gosling's got serious chops but Blunt & the rest of the cast are more than game and I hadn't seen a movie of this type that worked so effortlessly that hadn't been a superhero tentpole in what seems like forever.
My complaints for The Fall Guy are mostly minor and they barely affected my grade on the movie. I did think that while the ending set-piece was plenty fun and exciting, it also did run on long and it could have been a little tighter. The Fall Guy also barely avoids being too silly, the reveal of the antagonist and their villainous plan wasn't badly done or sloppily put together but it doesn't always seem plausible and the script was smart enough not to linger on it too long so you have time to ask questions.
The Fall Guy is kind of a throwback, I'd even call it an old-fashioned crowd pleaser. There's something here for almost everyone and I'd recommend it across the board. It's not perfect but it's so good at what it does and it's too bad we likely won't get a sequel because of the box office performance. It may be out of theatres not but if you're intrigued and haven't got a chance to check it out, it's worth the trip to the theatre.

No doubt a lot of effort went into the stunts. The movie is visually spectacular but it's also a hoot!
Two charismatic stars with chemistry to burn, a rampaging plot to keep things humming and some truly silly set pieces and inside nods to the movie business. But the best bit is the heart and romance - Gosling and Blunt are never cheesy and their characters' chemistry is great. In a fun, rollicking homage to stuntmen, you really believe these two have something special - and you get the mind blowing stunt set pieces.
The ending set piece is nail biting. Throw in some famous, surprise cameos at the end and an iconic theme song reimagined and you feel like you're in on all the inside jokes.
Love it. So watchable.

A beautiful example of people not knowing what they want. They keep saying how unoriginal Hollywood is and when something original comes out of Hollywood, people hate it. This is unfortunately also the case with Leitch's otherwise excellent film Fall Guy. A film that makes quite a brutal joke of itself (and of Hollywood as a whole). And that is rarely seen today. Both Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt thoroughly enjoy their roles and have great chemistry between them. And this is needed in the film, because in addition to excellent action, working jokes, the film also offers a good story, which is a tribute to the stuntmen.........people who risk their lives for the sake of the film. Total satisfaction for me.
Fantastic movie that highlights the stunt crews for movies, and how much they do for films.
It's not a serious movie, but if you like explosions, fun dialogue, and ridiculous circumstances that lead to more action, this is for you.
The acting by Gosling, Waddingham, and Blunt were all on point. Great chemistry between Gosling and Blunt.
The entire plot is a little funny and outrageous - but Gosling makes it work, and really sells the stuntman doing crazy stuff, and making it all look effortless.
My kids walked into the movie partway in, and couldn't tear themselves away, so even just for that - I think this was fantastic.

It's a love letter to the artistry and often unrecognized area of stunt work. A fun, light hearted movie with tons of action. As usual, Ryan completely commits to the role. Hannah Waddington is also a blast to watch. There is so much to love and appreciate about this movie. As it states at the beginning- 'movies are just that- movies. They are not meant to be real'.
Fall guy embraces that line of thought with a movie within a movie. It also pays homage to some of the best action movie scenes and franchises. If you have an appreciation for action movies and a sense of humour- this flick will not disappoint you.

I can't speak on film technique and value, but I can confidently say that this was within the top 3 most enjoyable movies I've ever watched. Obviously, the main characters are played by A-tier actors, but that doesn't always mean the movie is good. It does in this one.
I can see why some people think this movie is a mess. There are a lot of moving parts in the movie. Lots of tone shifts. The directors tried to do a lot in each scene. In my opinion, they succeeded. The majority of the jokes are genuinely funny, which is rare. The comedic timing and the script itself are great. The script is packed full- every line has a specific role to play, and most of them more than one. There's almost no filler in this movie whatsoever. The directors didn't settle for 'okay' at any point in development- every scene is meticulously planned and shot. The stunting is incredible, and I love the premise itself. Definitely going to be a movie I watch in years to come.

This was fantastic. I think there was only one joke that fell flat for me. I loved all the movie and tv references...including one of my favorites, Pillow talk, with its famous split screen between Rock Hudson and Doris Day! I appreciated the dialogue within the dialogue...that was hilarious, and what girl doesn't have an ex who she would like to see lit on fire and slammed into a wall over and over again. I imagine that would be quite cathartic.
This was such a great love letter to stuntmen and women...with great nostalgia for the original TV series Fall Guy! I loved seeing Lee Majors and Heather Thomas in the end, and yet the film felt fresh to me. I liked that it in a way poked fun of Hollywood while at the same time celebrated it.
I imagine it's a huge hit amongst stuntmen the world round. It was great to see the canine stunt animals weren't left out of the love fest. I did appreciate that they didn't show the actual opening "accident". I think that was a good call on someone's part.
The film was funny, filled with action and for the most part family friendly. I enjoyed the film tremendously and it really elevated my spirits. This is a broad recommendation, and may be my broadest, because I can't think of anyone I wouldn't recommend this too...except the most boring stick in the mud or elitist. This was just good fun and was spear headed by some phenomenal actors, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Their comedic timing was perfection. I was have had trouble keeping a straight face on set, big hats off to them. Pure entertainment and a joy to watch!

Mark my words.. Fall Guy will become a fan favorite over time. It will be a cult, and people will rewatch it a thousand times. I'm already waiting for it to be available in any platform.
This film is funny, full of perfectly coordinated action sequences, the soundtrack is gold, the love story is cute and the acting is super good considering how silly the plot is (in a good way).
It reminds me a lot to the 80's action movies, kind of Charlie Sheen's Hot Shot.
It is not meant to be serious at any point. It is two hours of raw-basic movie entertainment. I cannot praise it enough. Everyone should see it.

If ever you needed proof that movies come out right when written by cinephiles instead of algorithms, we now have it, with the co-stars of last year's two most anticipated movies appearing in a movie together. "The Fall Guy" is a tribute to stunt people, probably the most unsung heroes of the silver screen. The movie simultaneously celebrates everything that we love about cinema, while also giving a glimpse into the actual productions.
Basically, this is what entertainment is all about. Once we see this movie, we're bound to wonder whether stunt work will ever be an Oscars category; it should be, considering what they have to go through.
Anyway, great one. Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham and the rest have a lot of fun with their roles.

I really enjoyed the film as what I'd want from a big action-packed summer's coming movie but I think I've lost all my romantic cells in my body because so much of the rom-com elements annoyed me from time to time. Regardless, all the actors are charming in their roles. I've learned I need to see Ryan Gossling in more films to get a full idea of his range, however, my biggest kudos to this film is that it was made by/directed by an actual stuntman. That level of reverence for the things that stunt teams do reminds me of the true magic of cinema. If they do their jobs well you never realize it's them, but they are imperative to making what excites us happen. Nice nod to the original theme song at the end as well. If you're expecting a version of the TV show - it's not going to make you happy. If you expect it to be a movie that really gives credit to the stuntman/stuntwoman and their incredible talents to do what they do and you take the time to unbuckle your brain and just enjoy the ride, you'll love this. Great start to the summer for me.

Yes, this is a fun movie - that's what David Leitch specializes at - fun action comedies. But this one is way more than a simple action comedy. Let's start with the fact that our protagonist is a stunt man, the least recognizable person you might see on a movie screen. A point the movie makes repeatedly. A stunt man is a nobody, none knows him he can be replaced in an instant, but still - in this movie he's our protagonist. He tells us the story. So, we've got here a role reversal, but this role reversal is doubled, just as the term "fall guy" get's a double meaning here. This double role reversal is repeated a few times during the movie, in case we'll think it was accidental. It's not - that's what the movie is all about.
Think about the split screen scene - when the idea of a split screen is being discussed - is it a mere gimmick? Well, see what's happening on this split screen and you'll have your answer. Think about how unreal it all looks, and then think about one of the first sentences said by Jody Moreno - Emily Blunt's character - explaining that she doesn't want it to look real. It's a witty game the movie is playing with us - a game I love playing - it just calls for some extra attention. I could demonstrate this with many more examples, but it will require spoilers - I don't do these.
Just a few words about the acting - they're all super. I won't start singling out anybody. Editing, cinematography, pacing, all technical aspects of the movie - I just loved it.

Entering "The Fall Guy," my expectations were modest. I settled in for the duration without overanalyzing the plot or nitpicking technical aspects. What stood out to me was the remarkable skill and fearlessness of the stunt performers. Their ability to elevate scenes with daring feats deserves applause. The soundtrack further enhanced the experience, infusing it with a sense of exhilarating chaos.
While Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt delivered strong performances, the portrayal of the antagonists left something to be desired. Despite this, the movie provided enjoyable, albeit somewhat formulaic, entertainment. It's the kind of film perfect for a casual night out or a laid-back movie marathon. Although it may not reach the heights of cinematic greatness, its popcorn appeal and moments of excitement make it worthy of a second viewing. In essence, "The Fall Guy" may not be groundbreaking, but it certainly delivers on its promise of fun and escapism.

Ryan Gosling plays the titular stuntman, who is coaxed into a film production that gives him the opportunity to try and tie up some major loose ends in his life. Emily Blunt plays the director of the film-within-a-film, called Metalstorm.
The Fall Guy simultaneously depicts and spoofs the making a big-budget action film, with outsized personalities and egos clashing or combining with practical concerns large, small, and absurd. There's a lot a meta humor in how the relationships between the characters, and the relationship of the movie to the audience, are handled. There's lots of fun with props, too! The lighthearted vein of the story is consistent throughout and makes what would be distractions elsewhere part of the fun.
The personalities of all the characters are the main propulsion for the story; how the characters react to situations is as interesting as the situations themselves.
I've not seen the 1980's tv series staring Lee Majors that this movie was inspired by, and therefore can't speak to many references or easter eggs that might be contained in it; I can say that the film certainly stands on its own.
Worth seeing and re-seeing!

Romcom, action, crime ... this movie has it all. You can tell this movie was made to pay the due respect to all stunt industry persons and I loved that about it. As someone who fears heights or falling down, Stunt people are like Gods to me.
Ryan Gosling does what he does best, acts the ever living *** out of each scene. Emily Blunt's comedic side shines. Duke Wilson is always fun to see on-screen and Aaron Taylor Johnson pulled out the perfect A list actor stereotype we all think must be true. Oh, Hannah Waddingham did great in her role, but I hope never to see her as a brunette again!
Ryan plays comedy so well, The Nice Guys proved this to us but if you have followed him since Crazy, Stupid Love ... you know he can really hold his own as a comedic actor.
I can't wait to see this movie on streaming so I can pause and catch all the parts in a few scenes. I honestly just can't wait to watch it again ... absolutely the most fun I've had in a movie for a long, long time. Also, if you're Gen X ... this movie's soundtrack will hit all your pleasure centers.

The Fall Guy is a movie that really knows how to have fun. I think at a time where a lot of movies are just sequels and hollow remakes this stands out as something unique. (Although it is a remake of an older show, from what I've heard it seems to be quite different) It does a good job bending the genres of action, comedy, romance and drama. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt were great choices for the leads and they have great chemistry both comedic ally and romantically. Their performances and the performances in general were great. This movie is also very much a love letter to stuntmen who are so under appreciated, even having some tongue-in-cheek moments talking about how stuntmen tend to go unnoticed in the industry. The music is also incredible and I love what they did with Kiss' I Was Made for Loving You throughout the movie. Overall, it's a great movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. I highly recommend giving it a watch.

Look, it's not winning an Oscar, but it's fun. After years of franchise ATM movies with lazy production, this is one that would legitimately be fun to watch in a theater. Meta humor. Doesn't take itself too seriously. Pokes fun at tropes while employing them in real time. Ryan Gosling nails it. As do the stunt workers, I'm sure. Made me wish stunt performances were recognized at major awards shows. I might actually watch. Everyone in this production knows what their job is-entertainment. It's not self absorbed fine cinema (though that has an important place). Oh, and the soundtrack is a combination of ironic humor and absolute bangers.

I wanted to see this film when I heard that it was going to be released, and when I saw it, I ended up liking it much more than I expected. The comedy, romance and action that this movie has, is very well implemented, I think it's a very good movie that almost anyone will like. The plot is a bit more normal, but thanks to the humour of the film, it is very interesting and fun.
I recommend it to all the people who like this kind of movies.
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are great actors who never disappoint with their roles, and the fact that they are together in this film is a very good thing as they complement each other very well.

Did not expect this at all. Genuinely the best action film I've seen in years.
Not even sure what to say, it's that good.
Let's start where every other film falls down recently: the script. It's clever, it's funny, it's written by someone who knows what they're doing.
Fx are absolutely peak, as they should be: practical fx supplemented by cgi, none of that DC/Marvel puke on a screen.
The leads are absolutely fantastic together, and great to see Gosling being able to flex his comedy chops again. Thank god he's got out of that stupid Drive typecasting and free to do his job. Chemistry between him and Emily Blunt is fantastic. But I must gush on Waddington, Duke, Hsu (who appears to be a lucky charm of great films), Knight, all fantastic and multi ethnicity done right and not shoved down your face. But the moment went from great to utterly fantastic was when the dog turned up.
Don't remember the last time I finished watching a film and wanted to watch it instantly again.
Oh and the end bit which is a better Sci Fi film in 2 mins than rebel moon jn 4 hours...

The Fall Guy
A self proclaimed love letter to stunt men and women, The Fall Guy, delivers on hundreds of stunts that work well with the lunacy that is the main plot. A stunt gone wrong at the beginning of the movie leads to stunt man Colt Seavers breaking his back, hiding for 18 months and shutting out the world including camerawoman Jody Moreno who he was being nauseatingly cute with.
After those 18 months, Jody is now a director and her producer brings Colt back to help with some shenanigans going on behind the scenes. For the rest of the two hours, it gets sillier and more over the top and I ate up every second.
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are so cute together. Their on screen chemistry is undeniable. And Ryan is absolutely jacked as the super athletic stunt man, adding plausibility to some of the more physical stunts.
The film continues exploring their relationship, and the truth behind what was happening, by stringing together stunt after stunt. You can truly feel the love that the movie shows for all of those people that make action films so exciting. So many explosions! And watching that car flip so many times that it earned a Guinness World Record was so cool.
I was disappointed that the fisting joke from the trailer was cut from the movie. Boo.
Lastly, the movie does push for the theme of honesty even during the toughest of times. Ryan channeled his rom com charms in pretty impressive ways, and hallucinates about unicorns at the same time.
A Taylor Swift song is featured quite significantly near the beginning and I couldn't stop laughing in how it was used.
Go see it. Support the stunt people. And watch for the Lee Majors cameo in the credits. Yes I'm old.
