Let me start off by saying there are alot of positives to this show: acting(specifically John Turturro's plea for Nas near the end), suspense, drama, and Riz Ahmed's breakout role. However the ending was a bit underwhelming for me. It seemed like the show was building up to this grand finale and the ending was just anticlimactic. Thats about all I can say without giving anything away; but this show was neither bad nor great to me.

I really dont get the high ratings of this show. Super long and in the middle of the show I was so close from just not finishing it. They also ended the show in a very unsatisfying way.

I neither liked nor hated this show. It was interesting enough to stick with it to the end but if you are expecting Law and Order, you'll be disappointed. If you expect a story of the search for truth and justice, you'll be depressed.
It's about what happens to everyone involved when a crime is committed. How the accused changes in prison, how his relationship with his family changes, how lawyers and investigating officers are never the same again. Whether or not Nasir Khan is guilty, the world is a different place and no one with any connection to the story is happy in the end (spoiler: except for the cat).

"The Night Of" is a show that has garnered a lot of attention, but in my opinion, it doesn't quite live up to the hype. The character development is lackluster, leaving the audience disconnected and uninvested in their journeys. The plot, while attempting to delve into the complexities of a Muslim-based narrative, fails to bring anything new or special to the table. It feels like a run-of-the-mill story that has been overrated due to its cultural context. Overall, "The Night Of" is a show that could have been much more, but ultimately falls flat in its execution....................................

The first episode was a bang. Threw out of the park.
The rest were good enough to keep hooked.
The only complaint was, as a viewer, we should have known what actually happened on the night of... But well, this movie isn't a who-dun-it. It basically shows, "You aren't guilty, until proven." Commendable acting, behind the jail shockers and well made procedural.

So the first half is kind of dull. I almost dropped the show, because it was boring. I get it's a drama, but it was also kind of unrealistic regarding the prison introduction, a lot of dramatized elements that don't reflect reality. The story slugs along at that point too, so the first half really isn't that great. I also thought it was stupid how we were supposed to empathize with the girl when she's some trust fund junkie.
However, the second half really picks up and saves the show. The story got interesting, and the character development was really interesting to see as well. I recommend it purely for the second half, because it left me overall impressed. Omar starting in it definitely improved the show as well.

This was a really interesting show to watch. But an anticlimax. The eight episodes lead you into thinking the final episode will deliver. Disappointed in the main character and how weak he succumbs to prison life. True story telling in that often prosecutors look for an open/shut case and fail to investigate properly. Fantastic acting by John Torturro, his character is fascinating.

I'm writing this review partially in response to other reviews. I've seen plenty write about how the story is not the purpose and yet still rate the it a 10/10. So how could it be that a show finds itself a 10/10 if the story isn't the driving factor? Well the surrounding themes that vacate the depths of New York City, being; racial tension, drugs, murder, crime etc are dealt with very well throughout "The Night Of". They are in fact expressed so well that you begin to lose all hope for the protagonist, who is detached from any shine he once had. Frustration begins to build for the viewer as early as the first episode as we have seen from countless points of views which gives us the info we need, yet despite this we unfortunately cant tell the officers and so 6 parts run on. Several frustrating and uncomfortable scenes play out through the show and are a powerful sight to see. Despite this, i find myself frustrated at the show itself rather than the characters. The pace is incredibly slow and has been done before in 40 minute episodes of CSI, where there is more investigation. Thats right, a 'mystery', crime investigation show has an incredible lack of actual investigation which transforms it into show about life in prison and a trial that we're not excited to go to because it just keeps getting worse and worse until its not? The show ends abruptly with still a few unanswered questions and a protagonist whos no longer the same person that we started with.
Lack of an actual intriguing story, questionable character development, themes dealt with superbly but not enough to spark any light on a show so dark.

This is the most realistic and accurate crime investigation/trial I've ever seen on tv, I didn't even mind the slow pace of the story since it was very captivating! But many black holes and pointless scenes lead the viewers to misdirection in the wrong way.
It could have been a great mini-series if the ending was different, but the ending ruined it for me.

So far it's kept my attention, but I don't know how long they can play this story out I hope they end it by the last episode of 1 but I fear this will play out over 4 seasons. I'm not sure I can stick around that long. I like it's slowness compared to some movies which move so fast it's like watching a cartoon but if they get any slower I might turn the channel. I'm still here watching it and wondering what will happen to Naz. One hears of people's stories how they ended up in prison for 30 years then DNA frees them. Watching this you can see how easy that can happen to anyone. Life in prison is shocking but in this show it really brings it home to see how one has to survive.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!
Personally I really liked the show. The lead actors did a great job and really complemented each other. It really lived up to the genre of the series (drama) because it kept you on your toes the whole time. You are always alert trying to figure out yourself what's going on. I found my self trying to look for hints and clues to try to piece the puzzle myself. With that being said I also felt there were a few wrong steps the show took. The first of them being creating a major flaw for Chandra come out of nowhere who seemed like a serious lawyer. I also didn't like how they include characters who were potential suspects but there story was left unanswered. My biggest thing on the show that I really disliked was the giant cliffhanger. Like I mentioned there were characters who's story were left unfinished. Chandra being one of them and also Naz the prime suspect. Prison really changed him even if he was there for a few months I mean what's that about. Also we never got a clear answer of who committed the murder. I think that's what we all were waiting for. I know it seems like I have a lot of negatives for the show but I don't think it out weighs the good of the entirety of the show.
